Another One Bites The Dust

CBS reports that “Citadel Broadcasting Corp., the nation’s third-largest radio broadcasting company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection”.

Another media conglomerate that went deep into hock to buy up radio stations. Then it centralized everything and fired a lot of people to maximize the profits, but couldn’t survive because of the huge debt load.

Local radio stations need local personalities to attract local advertisers. They need to connect to the local community or people will have no loyalty.

This is just the latest example of the basic stupidity of greedy people with no long-range vision. They aren’t investing, they are gambling with borrowed money.

I’m sick of the homogenized crap that is the radio spectrum today, with format changes seemingly every other month. I actually know how to change the presets in my Mother’s car, something I never bothered to remember in the old days, because the radio stations grew with their audience.

Today, they don’t know anything about their audience.

I couldn’t have said it better myself!! And I hope ALL of the greedy stupid bastards everywhere end up dead broke under a bridge. That would be justice IMHO!

I’m not sure the people on the sex offenders list who are currently forced to live under bridges in Florida because of all of the restrictions telling them where they aren’t permitted to live, would allow media moguls to share the space – they have standards.

After Vista, followed by Windows 7 released during the GOPrecession, I’m not surprised that there is some disgruntlement around the M$ board table. The stock is in the tank, with all the others, and buying up little companies will real products just attracts regulators. They have run out of “vision” and watching the market share erode. Nothing really catastrophic, but the trend is headed in the wrong direction.

They didn’t groom anyone to take over, and the standard group of CEOs are worthless for tech companies.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer group of jerks. Those pink slips/redundancy notices are fitting Solstice gifts to the IT world.

Found a comment on the ABC blog that pretty much says it all about a major eason the US is going down the crapper.

How can the US Create jobs? Here’s a simple way that won’t cost taxpayers a dime.

How? Eliminate H-1B and L-1 Visa Fraud and abuse.

What can I do right now to change this?
Boycott Microsoft. Microsoft is the largest and most abusive foreign visa worker employer.

* Foreign H-1B workers “displace qualified American workers”
* H-1B workers “substantially deprived U.S. citizens of employment.”
* 20% + USCIS audited guest worker visa applications are fraudulent
* Foreign H-1B workers “substantially exceed” 241,000 unemployed American tech workers in the same field

How did this happen?
Corporate Greed and bottomless lobbyist funding from corporations including Microsoft. Convicted felon and H-1B program mastermind, Microsoft lobbyist, Jack Abramoff convinced Congress (without opposing testimony) to pass laws that make it legal for employers to lay off American citizens, and recruit their foreign visa worker replacements exclusively offshore.

The good news

S887 – This bipartisan Durbin/Grassley bill reform will crack down on corporate visa fraud and abuse and outlaw the corporate bypass of US talent and exclusive recruiting offshore for US jobs in the USA.

Employ Americans Act – The Sanders/Grassley bill will outlaw US employers from firing US citizens and exclusively hire their replacements from other countries.

Simple things YOU can do TODAY to change the US jobs crisis
1. BOYCOTT Microsoft.
2. Insist your elected officials support Employ America Act and S887.

If they don’t support these bipartisan bills, ask why and CHASE THE MONEY. Who are their corporate funding contributors?

Actions and Deeds NOT Lip service.
What are YOUR politicians doing about the jobs crisis?
Are they co-sponsoring/sponsoring these bipartisan bills?
What’s their voting record?
Are they fighting for unemployment and COBRA benefits?

Dead giveaways your politician will do ZERO to create US jobs for US citizens
Political funding from Microsoft, Compete America, and Indian companies

B.S. Detector Corporate Greed funded lies – keywords “Innovation”, “Best, and Brightest”, globalization, xenophobia.

This issue is the bulls eye of corporate greed and political corruption. Hence, a consumer boycott of Microsoft has more impact than expecting a broken, corrupt system to change.

Remind your elected officials they were elected FOR the people, BY the PEOPLE, not BUY Corporate GREED.

Tell them to end corporate visa fraud and abuse. American citizens, people who have paid their dues and taxes must have a fair chance to compete for jobs in our own country.

Thank you.

p.s.
I personally am not able to wait for months until Congress gets around to deliberating these issues – I’ve lost my job at Microsoft (replaced by 3+ H-1B and L-1 visa workers). My mortgage is 95% of my unemployment insurance (after 6 months, bank declined my MHA application because I’m laid off) and healthcare premiums up 600% thanks to Congress delays.

Thanks to these corporate visa programs, I’ve lost my job, and desperately trying not to lose my home and life savings. Congress, get a clue and act quickly. Move COBRA out of committee and get real with actual people facing the employment crisis – NOT overpaid, let them eat cake CEOs. We the “little people” who elected you need you to do the right thing and act quickly before more people spend a cold winter living out of their cars because they’ve lost everything due to these corrupt laws. lo

p.s.
I am no deadbeat, I apply for 30+ jobs weekly (almost ZERO reply), 12+ years high tech industry experience, Master’s Degree, and current Deans list Web Design/Development university student.

Sad really. *sigh*
White House Forecasts Job Growth Next Year
Yeah… lot’s of job growth, for imported cheap semi-slave labor. Way to go China USA.

9 Bryan { 12.22.09 at 11:59 am }

H1-Bs are seven years of indentured servitude for the people who get them. It is a form of legal slavery that is endorsed by all of the tech companies, who claim the the thousands of unemployed IT people who are 50+ years of age don’t actually exist. Bill was constantly haranguing Congress to increase the numbers.

The worst bit is that Americans are often required to train the people that will be taking their jobs. The corporate thinking is that this will make people angry enough to quit and save the corporation the benefits that they have to pay when they lay someone off, including unemployment insurance.

The program is necessary in very limited circumstances, but IT is not one of those circumstances. If they want to outsource the jobs, no one can stop them, but they want to claim they have an American made product because of export restrictions, so they bring the foreigners to this country. The corporations and foreign labor contractors make a lot of money, while the actual workers, both the visa holders and those they replace get screwed.
