World Cup Final – La Copa del Mundo
Netherlands [Oranje] versus Spain [La Furia Roja]
The octopus says Spain, while the parakeet says the Netherlands… I’ll wait for the referee at the end of the game.
At the end of the first half the teams have a 0-0 draw, but the Oranje are ahead on yellow cards 3-2. If the players don’t settle down we may see 8-man teams at the end.
Still 0-0 at the end of regulation, but the Oranje are up 6-3 on yellow cards.
Netherlands [Oranje] 0-1 Spain [La Furia Roja]
La Copa del Mundo – La Furia Roja found the net in the second extra time.

Viva Espana! Viva Pete! 🙂
That was more of a gang fight than a football match.
After the first half I was hoping that someone would score so it wouldn’t extend into extra time.
…I will from here on out have a profoundly revised opinion of the intellectual capacity of octopi, at least when it comes to sports booking…
Actually, from my stint at the SB Musuem of Natural History, the proper plural of octopus is octopuses. I have always been enamored of those crazy, slimy swimming brains with legs.
And, yes, Bryan. It was not “the beautiful game”…The Dutch were wearing more “yellow flags”‘ than orange…
The guys who take care of him/her had better keep a close watch on their security, Jack, as there are a lot of people interested in that eight-legged tout.
Jill, that was action near the ball, there were a lot things going on with no ball in sight – things that were called muggings when I carried a badge. The problem is that young players will see it and think that’s how you should do it.
They really need to add some more officials to put a stop to this garbage, people to watch what’s going on away from the ball, and a drama coach to rule on some of the absurd acting.
I understand that the famous Spanish chef, Jose Andres, who has numerous restaurants in the DC area, has now taken octopus off his menus.
And…of course…the Dutch are blaming the English ref.

The officiating sucked, but it had nothing to do with individual referees. FIFA changes the rules for every World Cup and everyone is supposed to just accept the changes.
While concentrating on the new rules about fouls near the ball, the referees missed off-side goals, hand-ball goals, and goals that crossed the line and then exited the goal area because of the crummy ball the games used. There was no attention paid to what was going on away from the ball.
We have the ability to help officiating with technology, but FIFA refuses. I’m not talking about instant replay, but some accuracy about goals, and lines would be nice, as well as extra eyes if there is a question. The referee should be able to get a reliable second opinion, and to get a handle on all of the acting by the players.
