Everyone Needs A Hobby

Remember the former anesthesiologist in Ohio who is under investigation after being injured by a pipe bomb at his house? Well, according to his mother, building pipe bombs was a just a hobby.

Oh, yeah, a harmless hobby, like ham radio or model airplanes. Sure, everyone enjoys a well-crafted improvised explosive device. No harm in constructing bombs in a residential neighborhood… 😈

I wonder if we’ll discover that the next meth lab that gets busted, was merely an advanced chemistry experiment. Maybe North Korea should have tried – “Well, we had all this plutonium just sort of laying around and we thought we would see what we could do with it.”

What a coincidence! I had the same *hobby* about 25 years ago. Wait… It’s not a hobby if you get paid for it is it? 😛

Seriously… where do these people come from?? Geez!

A-mazing!

It is rather amazing that even his mother would think this was a good idea. You have to wonder what her childhood was like if she didn’t see a problem with playing with bombs.

It takes all kinds, but I wish more of them would find another universe to inhabit.

What a dickhead. Still I was thinking the same about his mother Bryan… I wonder wht was considered dangerous in her household!

They should be shipped to a location that doesn’t care about this sort of thing. Somalia comes to mind. Someplace in the middle of nothing with no one around, so they can blow themselves up without annoying the neighbors as there won’t be any.

Well, I have taught some students at MIT for whom pyrotechnics was a hobby. Fortunately, I don’t recall any pipe bombs. (Although coffee creamer seems to be quite popular.)

Of course, some of these students thought is was good, clean, fun to move a field gun from the Spanish-American war from Pasadena to Cambridge, without the formality of asking the owners if they objected.

The appropriation of various objets d’art by institutions of higher education is an ancient and honored tradition, but a field piece moved across the country certainly outclasses small wooden idols, or even livestock.

Everyone knows that college chemistry labs are just an excuse for making obnoxious odors, loud noises, and brilliant flashes of light. That is totally normal, and age appropriate behavior.

It is the loners who do these things in their basement that generally give cause for concern.
