China and Greece Shaken
The Associated Press reports on the latest 5.0 aftershock in China that is threatening the debris dams holding back large lakes before they can be safely drained, and the BBC reports on the 6.1 earthquake responsible for two deaths in Greece:
China: Aftershock hits quake lake, setting off landslides
JIANGYOU, China (AP) — A “relatively strong” aftershock shook a massive quake-formed lake Sunday that had been threatening to flood more than a million people, sending landslides tumbling down surrounding mountains, a state news agency reported.
The effect of the 20-second quake on the Tangjiashan lake was not immediately known, Xinhua News Agency said. The dam of unstable mud and rocks was under surveillance following the aftershock.
Its magnitude was not immediately known, Xinhua said.
Though water had been draining from a hastily dug diversion channel for nearly two days, the lake continued to swell.
Greece: Two killed by large Greek quake
At least two people have been killed as an earthquake rocked southern Greece, collapsing buildings and causing panic.
Some 20 injuries were reported from falling roofs as the tremor – which had an epicentre 200km (124 miles) west of Athens – struck near Patras in the Peloponnese region.
The quake had a magnitude of 6.5, the Athens Geodynamic Institute said, and could be felt in the capital.
Greece is one of Europe’s most earthquake-prone countries.
A 60-year-old man died when his home’s roof collapsed on him, and an 80-year-old woman died of a heart attack after the quake shook her village, authorities said.

The only country China would really like to invade is Russia, because there is a whole lot of nothing with no one living on it North of the Russo-Chinese border. The thing with Taiwan is “face” not real, same as Tibet. China is really weird when it comes to expanding. All of their “invasions” were half-hearted, doomed to failure operations. They tend to look inward.
The Russians want to expand their influence and prestige, not their borders. Their population is declining and everyone wants to live in the few “modern” cities or emigrate.
The US seems to be about the only nation wandering around looking for trouble.

And at least the Chinese & Russians (and most of the rest of the World) have a goal and some kind of plan. USA is the proverbial *Bull in a China shop*. No idea where it’s going, no idea what it’s doing when it gets there, and no idea what to do next. Just leaving a trail of destruction everywhere it goes. As a project manager, I’d hit it with the big red *PROJECT FAILED* stamp and throw it in the bottom filing draw for reference in the hope someone might learn from the mistakes on some future project. LOL
Of course, that’s how these things all seem to start. No sane person would ever consider doing what they have done, for what seem to be their real reason, if you can believe McClellan’s book – to spread democracy and moderation in the Middle East. It’s insane, but they did it.
They couldn’t even figure out that taking out the Taliban and Saddam eliminated all of the checks on Iran. These people are dumber than rocks.
