Earthquake in Japan

CNN reports that At l[e]ast two die as 6.9 earthquake rattles Japan

TOKYO, Japan (CNN) — Two people were killed and at least eight others injured Saturday when a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck northeastern Japan, Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura said.

Machimura said one man was killed when he was buried in a landslide in Fukushima Prefecture and the other was struck by a truck as he rushed out of his house in Iwate Prefecture.

Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda sent priority orders for rescue operations, Machimura said.

The quake, which struck at about 8:45 a.m. (11:45 p.m. GMT Friday), was centered 100 km (60 miles) north of Sendai in southern Iwate prefecture. Aftershocks of 5.0 and 4.4 magnitude followed, the Japanese Meteorological Agency said.

The Iwate government office said it had received reports of children and teachers injured by glass from broken windows at a preschool and that the earthquake produced landslides in some areas.

The Miyagi fire department said there had been some injuries caused by falling furniture as well as some bus passengers injured when the vehicle bounced on a bridge. Two houses collapsed, the fire department said.

The USGS map shows there have been at least 4 aftershocks in the 4.6 to 5.5 range in the area.

Don’t you mean …”at least” two die? Otherwise it looks like CNN was waiting and waiting for some kind of body count so the earthquake reports would be more exciting…

They must be because that’s their headline and I didn’t notice the typo, I just copy and pasted.

I generally don’t edit the stuff I copy, other than indicating the breaks, but just for you I’ll add the “e” in brackets.

Thanks! CNN is clearly just bloodthirsty!

(I don’t like to correct copied pieces either even though misspellings irritate me…)

The latest count I’ve seen is 9, but people are still missing.
