"There are two novels that can change a bookish 14-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. we’re getting smoke and ash from the fire up near big bear. it is un(freakin’)believable.
folks up north are being told “they’re on their own.” welcome to the new america of bushco. we don’t have money for the resources…so you are on your own. we don’t want to bring back national guard troops and their equipment…so you are on your own. we don’t want to have megamultizillionaires pay a little more in taxes to pay for leasing the super scooper…so tough bananas.
and where is the national media? oh, apparently they can’t cover multi-disasters. CA burning is an old story. Flooding in the mid-West is new stuff so they’ll concentrate on that.
ooops. BIG SUR…not Big Bear (well…not yet anyway…) Thank Buddha last year’s Zaca Fire basically burned everything we have in SBCounty.
P.S. – We “heart” the Coast Guard…

The “costs” have been cut to the point that they don’t have the ability to do two things at once, which has pretty much happened to the government.
