These are the Real Americans not will to trade liberty and the Constitution for the illusion of security. There is only one Republican among them, Congressman Tim Johnson of Illinois. I am willing to give Senator Kennedy a pass for his past support and known medical problems, but no one else.

In the Senate the vote on cloture was the important vote.  Quislings may attempt to delude people by voting against the measure later, a tactic LIEberman often uses to be on both sides of an issue, but the only realistic way of stopping this was a filibuster.

My Congresscritter, Lois Capps, is there. 🙂

Bryan, thank you for posting the heros in the House & Senate.

I note that 44% of Democrats in the House voted against the bill, and 31% of Democrats in the Senate voted against the bill.

I had hoped for more, of course.

As you say, we need to channel our votes and money to support those who stand up for our rights. We need to do this both individually and collectively. And, as you say, we need to be vocal about why we give our support where we do and why we withold it where we don’t.

(I am fortunate in that I am represented by Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, and Barney Frank, people who–despite some disagreements–I am comfortable supporting.)

With Bill Nelson [Dino], Martinez and Miller I struck out.

Barbara Boxer is also there, Jill, but Feinstein isn’t, and she voted against the original Senate version of this bill.

It was 54%, a majority of Democrats, in the House, Jim, but the top 4 members of the leadership voted for it. It’s time for a change in the House leadership.
