They Are Terrorists
Suspect: Church fires were joke that ‘got out of hand’
Three Birmingham college students were arrested Wednesday in connection with 10 church fires in Alabama last month, state and federal officials said.
One of the suspects said the fires began as a joke that “got out of hand,” according to court papers filed Wednesday citing what a witness told investigators.
Two of those arrested were identified as Ben Moseley and Russell Debusk, both 19 and students at Birmingham-Southern College, which is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. They appeared in federal court in Birmingham late Wednesday morning.
Soaping windows is a joke. TP-ing is a joke. Firebombing buildings is not a joke. Jokes don’t involve the FBI and BATF.
If burning houses that are being built because of environmental beliefs is terrorism, then burning down ten churches in rural locations is terrorism, especially when some of those churches had black congregations and the history of burning black churches in the South.
Anybody who thinks this won’t cause trouble between the Baptists and the United Methodists doesn’t understand the politics of the Southern churches.
Update: The President of Birmingham Southern College has has announced that the school will help to rebuild the burned churches. A very good move for all concerned.
