Tammy Duckworth won the Democratic primary for the 6th Congressional District currently held by “Henry the Hypocrite” Hyde.
It would certainly be nice if there were more people in Congress with combat experience, as they tend to be less ready to waste lives than chickenhawks.
Update: Via Michael, Karen has the possibility of replacing “Denny the Doughboy” Hastert with John Laesch, a Navy intelligence vet.

Among the antiwar activists I hang out with, a surprising number… well, maybe not so surprising… are combat veterans, especially Vietnam veterans. While the correlation is not perfect… many veterans are hawks and many doves are not veterans… the perspective you describe seems characteristic of a lot of combat veterans I’ve known. Personally I don’t even want to think about what it’s like to be in a war zone, let alone to be a combatant. But those who have been there often do seem to have greater respect for the troops than the chickenhawks do. I’d be happy to see more Democratic veterans in Congress.
