How Complicated Is It?

Nice catch from ‘Lights at Exit Stage Left: Mike Leavitt the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services put his parents in the wrong Medicare Part D plan and they had to switch before losing benefits.

This is not a slam on Mr. Leavitt, because he didn’t design the system, but if he can’t figure it out, how are people without his resources supposed to make the choice?

Exactly! This is something a lot of people will find happening. That it happened to him, perhaps, will show how it can happen to anyone.

The people who are really getting hit are those on Medicaid and Medicare. The Medicaid people signed people up for a specific plan through that program, but Medicare automatically signed people up for a second plan. Now they are canceling one of the plans, usually the wrong one. People who thought they had this all worked out are in trouble again.

Just a total mess.
