The BBC reports Hubble spots ring of dark matter
Astronomers have found one of the best pieces of evidence for the existence of dark matter, a mysterious quantity that pervades our Universe.
They have identified what appears to be a ghostly ring in the sky which is made up of this enigmatic substance.
This is why the Hubble needs to be kept active. There is so much to learn and to know. Sometimes we find that our experiments already exist if we can find them.

If it never teaches us another thing, it’s worth it for the stunning pictures.
The universe is a wondrous place and it isn’t just black and white.
Yep — I downloaded that one, too. I was tempted to make it my desktop photo, but I have this wonderful photo of the latest comet there, and I’m not ready to part with it yet.
Breathtaking. Recent reading about newer models of the structure of the universe makes me drop my jaw even further on viewing such a picture. Thanks for publishing this, Bryan; if nothing else, it helps me keep my perspective.
There are people who look at pictures like this and feel dwarfed by the immensity of the universe. I feel enlarged with the knowledge that people, tiny, insignificant people, are able to imagine this universe and to translate it into visions you can hold in your mind.
We can begin to understand it, and that’s something a red giant or galaxy will never be able to do. We may be physically small but we have infinitely large minds. We will understand it.
How on earth (pun intended) could we NOT keep the Hubble going? Who knows what we will find, what we will discover? It is making us both insignificant and connected to this glorious universe. Think of the fantastic things that await us!
How could anyone say no? (Don’t answer that, the twit is in the White House….)
Come on, Ellroon, there are wars to lose, or something that we need money for as long as it doesn’t come from the wealthy, because Paris Hilton will need billions to recover from the trauma of 45 days in jail.
