The Eve of Christmas Eve
So it’s time to get everything in line so that there will be smooth sailing tomorrow.
Obviously you need the text of A Visit from St. Nicholas [AKA Twas the night before Christmas] or one of the variations, although Grinchs like August insist on Santa’s Lament.
I assume all of your cards and letters have been sent, and although they won’t be as interesting as DCup’s Holiday Newsletter, we all know that we save them to read aloud after a few too many eggnogs.
But now that you’ve finished putting up enough lights to match the total electrical consumption of a third world nation, you can sit back and watch the North American Air Defense Command’s annual attempt to take out that red-suited commie’s attack on the capitalist system by giving stuff away. [Don’t worry kids, they are using the anti-missile defense system, so there’s no danger to anyone but taxpayers.]

Thanks for the “Visit” link. From one of my maternal ancestors (I don’t remember which), I inherited a tiny (2″ x 2″) book titled “A Child’s Bijou” from sometime in the mid-19th century; it contains a very early (and I consider definitive) version of that poem. I’m not at home at the moment, but I’ll compare it with the version you linked. A quick glance through the latter gives me the impression that it’s very close indeed.
A Merry Christmas Eve to you, Bryan, and to all your readers.
Happy NODWISH, Steve.

A Cautionary Note to Santa: Check sleigh and reindeer for any surreptitiously placed tractor beams. They are every bit as real and effective as SDI.
Forget ‘We Come in Peace’ signs – bull’s eye targets are even more effective.
Peace Out.
For some reason I can’t manage any kindly thoughts towards the waste of billions on a fool’s errand. One would hope that this exercise in corporate welfare is terminated to pay off the national credit card that defends nothing except the profits of a few contractors.
Merry Christmas, Brian. I hope you and yours have an evening and a day that will warm your hearts for years to come.
Thanks, Lurch, Merry Christmas.
