Not Good News

Update: CNN is now confirming the report and raised the death toll to nine.

The BBC just reported [no US media is covering this yet]: Heavy Afghan losses for US troops

At least eight US soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan in clashes with Taleban militants.

US commander Daniel Dwyer told the BBC the soldiers had been killed in clashes in the north-east of the country.

A Nato statement says US soldiers and members of the Afghan National Army came under attack in Kunar province, near the border with Pakistan.

But, other reports say the attack took place in neighbouring Nuristan.

They say two Afghan soldiers were also killed.

A senior intelligence officer in Kunar province said a number of civilians had also been killed and injured.

I’m going to assume that since the head of the Kunar Provincial Reconstruction Team is Commander Daniel W. Dwyer, USN, that it occurred in Kunar. It is also possible that the PRT was attacked rather than combat forces.

Excuse me, shouldn’t you be focusing on the victory of the surge?

I have mistakenly focused on the fact that these are the people that actually attacked the US, and they continue to attack because of the surge and the other stupidity of the criminal conspiracy that is the current US government.

Really? The Bushmoron had another surge? Hmmm… yeah it’s about that time again. You sure it wasn’t just another pair of rolled up sox? He does that you know… He tries to wow the people with his big surge, but it’s all a fake… 😉

Yeah… some of us tend to do that! We are soooo bad! *sigh* Facts and reality have no place in a fictional World.

IMHO, I think this was a test by the recently escaped Taliban leaders and fighters. Wouldn’t surprise me if they are camped out in Pakistan, and skirmish over for border raids. I’d bet they were after supplies mainly.

It will get worse, especially if given time to consolidate, plan and resupply.

If I were a Taliban leader, I’d probably bide my time and see if Busmoron attacks Iran (even via Israel proxy), or, failing that event, for the Prez election and handover to new Administration. That would be a perfect time for a major gorilla warfare style offensive in Afghanistan. Ask the Russians, they know how patient and cunning and tough the Taliban actually are.

Then again, the Taliban may simple wait for the USA to self-destruct and make their job so much easier.

This is the second month in a row that troops are suffering heavier losses in Afghanistan than Iraq. This writing was on the wall from the beginning…insufficient force to do the job.

The locals know that the US loses interest and leaves, while the Taliban doesn’t. There’s no way of predicting how long the Westerners will stay and provide security, but it is a given the Taliban will still be there.

Win the war and lose the peace is pretty much the post-World War II US record.

We had the problem contained and a long-term solution at hand, and they gave it up to attack Iraq.

Amateurs and dilettantes – that’s the Hedgemony.

But don’t worry, we’re winning. The Taliban can’t keep taking those sorts of losses and remain a viable fighting force. I know this because we were told this by a general. In 1986. Wearing a Soviet uniform. Who assured us that victory was in sight in Afghanistan because there was no way the insurgents could keep fighting with the losses they were taking.

Sigh. Bushmoron not only gave us a new Vietnam in Iraq, but he also gave us the Soviet version of Vietnam in Afghanistan. Wow, double-decker disaster dude, isn’t he?

I’m waiting for him to try to schedule a rematch at the Little Big Horn.
