Do They Listen To Themselves?
The Pensacola News Journal reports that our orange governor, Charlie Crist has vetoed the latest attempt by the Republican majority in the legislature to interfere in doctor-patient relations in the state, and to order doctors to perform what may be unnecessary medical procedures, which will raise the cost of health care. [They don’t understand that’s what they are doing because they are pandering to their base, not thinking things through.]
The Republican leadership accuse Charlie of willfully and maliciously pandering to the voters by doing what a majority of them wants done, rather than doing what a minority of voters who will never vote for him want done.
It has never ceased to amaze me how many Republicans think that doing what the majority of people want is unprincipled.

What, you just noticed the Republican abhorrence of democracy? What Republicans want is not democracy, but a dictatorship of the majority by the minority. They instituted that here in California (mostly) by requiring a 2/3rds vote for pretty much anything in the Legislature dealing with the budget or taxes, thereby allowing the minority to dictate to the majority, thereby turning California into a failed state, and they’d *love* to be able to do that elsewhere…

Despite having fewer registered voters than the Democratic Party, the Republicans redistricted themselves into having 65% of both houses of the state legislature and of the Congressional delegation.
They have been spooked by the tea-partiers into proposing all kinds of mischief in this last session of the legislature and Charlie is having to veto things so the state doesn’t fall completely apart before the elections this Fall.
They have totally screwed up the tax and revenue side, and have been trying to paper over their deficits by raiding special trust funds.
The state will be ready for bankruptcy next year, no matter who is in control. Between the GOPression and the oil spill things are going to get a whole lot worse as the year progresses.
The sheep haven’t been paying attention, but they won’t be able to ignore things much longer.
