Day Eight – Bummer

World CupIn Group C:

Slovenia 2-2 US
England 0-0 Algeria

In Group D:

Germany 0-1 Serbia

The US was asleep in the first half, but came back. What would have been the winner for the US was disallowed. It wasn’t clear why, but it was disallowed.

England didn’t ever wake up against Algeria, but they had better because Slovenia can taste the knock out round.

Germany paid the price of not respecting their opponent, and this Cup is definitely getting weird.

The umpiring in this World Cup has been absolutely atrocious!!

This has to be one of the worst World Cups I’ve ever seen for so many reasons. I really hope FIFA get sued stupid over it. Won’t happen, nobody has any balls (pun intended!)

bah!

My friend the local “soccer” referee explained what happened on the US goal. Apparently FIFA demanded a crack down on the fouls in the penalty area, and this has been translated by referees to a policy of ruling against the offense in almost every case if both sides are committing fouls. It is claimed that this practice has been responsible for a reduction in death threats, so the referees go along with it. This, of course. results in the defense kicking the crap out of the offense in the penalty area if one one the attackers screws up and commits a foul. Although defensive fouls outnumbered offensive fouls by three to one, the goal was disallowed and defense got a free kick.

All part of the game…
