Today In The “Crude Crisis”

Gulf Gusher symbolWALA, the Fox affiliate in Mobile, Alabama uses that term to describe the Gulf Gusher.

Thanks to BP and Hurricane Alex the Local Puppy Trainer reports 8-inch oil blobs on Navarre Beach. None of that chocolate colored stuff for Navarre, this is black crude oil in large “patties”.

Meanwhile McClatchy reports that Oil hitting Mississippi beaches by the ton. Literally they are picking up oil-soaked sand at quantities greater than 2,000 pounds.

But, not to worry, because, according to the Pensacola News Journal, BP has such efficient claims service:

You’d think folks at the BP claims center and Escambia County government officials would be on a first-name basis by now.

Judging by a letter the county received Monday: Not so much.

The letter, addressed to “Dear Sirs,” stated: “We have not been able to contact you regarding your claim as we do not have a working phone number to reach you.”

County Commission Chairman Grover Robinson IV was incredulous.

I guess someone missed all of the numbers on the official letterhead that was used to submit the claim, and the column of numbers for the county in the phone book.

If they do this to Escambia County, what do you think happens to Joe’s Bait Shop, or individual fishermen? Why do I hear this song in the background when BP talks about their claims process?

Best use for a vuvuzela I’ve heard of yet (other than ramming it up its owner’s arse): A vuvuzela symphony planned for outside of BP HQ in London. Organizers are attempting to get 100 vuvuzela players together to serenade BP until the well is capped and the Gulf is cleaned up as well as is possible. Sadly, I doubt it will last more than 30 minutes before British coppers show up to haul them all off on terrorism charges :).

Well, if these guys behave themselves, maybe the cops will let them have a “free speech concert zone” — say a couple of miles from corp HQ. That’s how we do it here in the U.S. now.

About those claims —
I don’t own a business or beachfront property, but it looks like it might be a while before I can once again use the public beaches around here. Last time I looked, St. Andrews State Park charges about $5/day and access to the Gulf Islands Natl Seashore was still free. So just what should I put on MY claims form?

Badtux, I approve of that message, but only because I don’t live in London.

Yes, Boris, the Tory mayor of London, will certainly demand the Bobbies do something.

If they went to Speaker’s Corner, PJ, no one would be able to hear them over the standard ranters.

As the summer goes on, unfortunate;y more and more people will feel the effects of losing the summer tourist season along the coast.

Does anyone else remember “The Fox”, the eco protester back in the early 1970’s who dumped several gallons of their own waste in one company’s corporate office?

Sorry, but I didn’t get back to the US until the mid 1970s and was rather occupied with various groups attempting to blow me up in Europe… Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot there weren’t any terrorists attacking Americans until 9/11/01. 😈

It sounds like a reasoned act to me.

I think you meant “blow me up”, “blow me” is what happens in the Mission District here in San Francisco . Was a odd image in my head until I put the missing word in, heh :).

You’re right, Badtux, and I’ve changed it. The Red Army Faction, IRA, Abu Nidal, Bader-Meinhof, etc. were not very friendly.

Yes, I assumed they weren’t trying to do the… err… other thing to you. Except metaphorically, of course :).

Metaphorically, I believe a petard was in the mix with the effect directed to the other side of the body.

Kind of like the big banks’ notion of “customer service” in other words, which resembles what a stallion does to a mare, eh?

Yes, Badtux, that was the general tenor of things;

Kryten, this thread is about “Crude”, and we have been adhering to it.

Hmm, the parade must have goats and Republicans according to rumor, you understand… well, rumor outside of Mossy Head as necropsies and police reports are a bit more than rumor.
