Why Now?
Yes, folks, I get to use my tag line for the latest campaign move by the Shrubbery.
The Pensacola Beach Blog alerted me to this development yesterday with his post, Protesting Bush’s Visit.
I went looking for the Pensacola News Journal articles and found the Friday announcement of the visit:
“This is a God-fearing, flag-waving, military-loving congressional district,” said U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Chumuckla, who faces opposition from Democratic challenger Joe Roberts. “The president obviously wants to show the Republican base is not depressed as the national media would portray it.”
Bush is expected to stump for Miller and gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist, who is running against Democrat Jim Davis. Crist and Davis are battling to replace Gov. Jeb Bush, the president’s brother, who will be ousted by term limits.
Gov. Bush likely will attend, as will Crist, Miller said. There was no indication whether U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris, who is battling for Democrat Bill Nelson’s U.S. Senate seat, would attend.
In the Saturday article on the visit:
Members of the Republican Party of Florida, which is sponsoring the event, said Saturday it was still not known if Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist and Gov. Jeb Bush would attend.
Since they allow comments at the PNJ site, I thought it would be of interest to those from outside the area to see that all discussion descends to theology and Bible interpretation in this area.

“He that is without sin let him cast the first Stone ..” I can’t stand seeing scripture getting used out of context from what is written in the bible. Especially if it is being manipulated for politics.(The verse John 8:7) So when they continued Him He lifted up Himself and said unto them, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
This verse is part of a story that starts at John 8:4 and the topic ends at 8:12.
These people Jesus was talking too where religious hypocrites that were going to stone a lady because they caught her in the act of adultery. For some reason they didn’t catch the guy with her.
It had been part of a set up by the scribes and Pharisees, now they left Jesus and the girl starting with Eldest to the last after Jesus started writing something in the sand. Since those good old boys left because of being convicted by their own conscience, I would suggest Jesus was writing down their own sins. The ones of the hypocrites.Bush Visit Sat Nov 04, 2006 5:32 am

The rest of the verse is—–at her.
So are you referring to Bush or Crist as “her”

Guys, guys, guys…”Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s”. This is politics and belongs to Caesar.
I haven’t seen any polling about this area, but I have to wonder why Pensacola would be chosen for a lunch time visit on the day before the election. Does Republican polling show a problem in the Panhandle? Are the Republicans in trouble statewide and need every vote they can get? Is Miller in trouble? Does the Shrubbery need to act like he’s doing something without risking getting booed? Why come to Pensacola now?
