What A Sewer The Local Governments Are
OK, so just before the Tourist Development Council director resigned [later committing suicide] over buying a yacht and house with public money, the city council of Crestview, the county seat, fired its police chief because he was shielding one of his friends, a senior officer, from various complaints that resulted in the protected officer being indicted for racketeering.
The county replaced the TDC director with the airport manager, so I guess we will be buying an airplane next.
That appointment has to be looked at in a new light, as the guy the airport manager had just hired to be the chief of the airport police, just resigned before he was indicted for various illegal doings at his last job.
The Fort Walton Beach city council just fired their city manager because he couldn’t get along with the city’s employees.
The little town I live in hasn’t really had these kinds of problems … well, since the town manager was indicted for insurance fraud after Ivan, but that had nothing to do with the town, and it was a long time ago.
Republicans don’t like government because they are so bad at it.

Are Florida and Illinois having a race to produce to most despicable politicians? I do like that the current governor of Illinois can consult with his two predecessors, subject to permission of the Warden!
We call the person who is charge of a prison a governor. Perhaps we prefer our governors to be on the other side of the bars!
Sir Terry was right, we should use the system of XXXX and throw them into prison as soon as they are elected. It would save a lot of time and money.
Dayum. And here I thought our local government was corrupt ’cause the York family bribed our city council to loot $1B out of the utilities capital improvement fund over the next 30 years to build them a sports palace for the San Francisco 49’ers. But at least they’re not corrupt on the *little* things, it takes some big money to corrupt them. Seems like your guys can’t be trusted in a 7-11 ’cause they’ll try to walk out the door without paying for their Big Gulp…

Three-quarters of million here, three-quarters there, and pretty soon you are talking about ‘real’ money – to paraphrase Everett Dirksen.
The new police chief for the airport was in charge of evidence at his last job and would sell weapons that were supposed to be destroyed to pawn shops.
A bunch of sociopaths and petty criminals being hired by incompetent ideologues elected by sheep based solely on labels.
A stadium for the 49’ers has a better chance of making some money than the undersized, overpriced ‘convention center’ that the county supervisors had build on a section of pristine beach after people rejected the entire concept in an ‘advisory referendum’.
At least in the Northeast we had corruption that involved some planning and intelligence, but down here it is just money grubbing.
