I have had issues with the American Legion for a very long time. I have always viewed them as less than effective at helping vets than other organizations, and have never been happy about their status as under regulated bars in many areas. Vets have enough problems with alcohol, that I don’t appreciate vet organizations that sell it.
The Legion not only enables drunks, they enable militarism through faux patriotism. They should be supporting vets and the troops, not political parties.
CNN contributor, Roland S. Martin thinks Ron Paul’s 9/11 explanation deserves to be debated.
During the last debate Ron Paul made the mistake of actually knowing something about the Middle East, and when he mentioned that American actions in the Middle East are one of the reasons the US is hated by the Islamic fundamentalist, Giuliani demanded Paul apologize for being informed.
Roland Martin thinks the issue should be debated and not ignored.
William C. Hall, posting at Candide’s Notebooks, writes in Mesopotamia Myopia about Lt. Colonel T.E. Lawrence’s [Lawrence of Arabia] letter on the British occupation of Iraq in 1920. People seem unaware that British Army, having “saved” the Iraqis from a Turkish dictatorship in World War I proceeded to lose the peace.
We need to determine the wavelength of stupidity, i.e. the period of time that must elapse before people forget all of the lessons taught by our last disastrous set of choices. As the song asks “when will they ever learn?”

Methinks the wavelength of stupidity is getting blue-shifted (the opposite of red-shifted), because as people grow less and less knowledgeable about history in the first place, they don’t have to forget the lessons–they never learned them in the first place.
They begin forgetting “history” almost as soon as it happens.
