RIP Melanie Mattson 1954-2008
Melanie was one of the first people I read when I wandered into blogtopia™, after escaping from the news groups and mailing lists. Her original place at Just A Bump In The Beltway was politics and a great deal more.
After the 2004 elections she shifted to her core loves: faith, food, friends, felines, and the flu. She wrote a personal blog, injecting herself into her words.
The past year had been bad for her on many fronts and when she disappeared for extended periods after being one of the most consistent bloggers around, you could feel the toll of her life.
Susie has more.
Lurch, a milblogger, was in his early 60s when he checked out this year, while Steve Gilliard and Jim Capozzola were in their 40s.
I was going to do this yesterday, but I needed more time.

A sad tragedy. I was reading about here on Suburban Guerrilla and elsewhere (thanks for the link). I had come across her blog while blogging at LM, and she certainly put her heart into her blogging.
RIP, truly.
She was “good people” who really cared, but the world didn’t.
I hear that, sadly. *sigh* It seems to happen a lot, and no matter how often I see it, I don’t understand it.
Here, we call it “the tall poppy syndrome”. Once you stand above the level of the majority, they want to cut you down. I guess it’s some form of insecurity, who knows… I don’t.
I know SO many musicians who don’t have health care. If it weren’t for my husband, I wouldn’t, either.
Big. Heavy. Sigh…..
It should be a given, like it is in the rest of the “civilized” world.
