Tropical Storm Gustav

Tropical Storm GustavPosition: 16.6 N 71.4 W. [10 PM CDT]
Movement: Northwest [310°] near 12 mph.
Maximum sustained winds: 70 mph.
Wind Gusts: 85 mph.
Tropical Storm Wind Radius: 50 miles.
Minimum central pressure: 990 mb.

It is 150 miles South-Southeast of Port au Prince, Haiti.

Gustav is obviously in a favorable environment for strengthening, and Haiti and the Dominican Republic are going to get pasted again with what currently appears to be an even stronger storm than Fay.

[10 PM] Gustav has an eyewall and will probably be a hurricane in the 1 AM update, if not before.

Well, if you would like to enjoy it even more, I can assure you that there are plenty of condominiums available on our barrier island right on the Gulf of Mexico to welcome it ashore.

DHS being jerks, the mortgage meltdown, and lousy weather have combined to make this a disastrous year for the Gulf rental market.

I can’t say I like the look of Gustav. You may see it, Bryan, or I may see it; either way, it looks to be at least as strong as, and probably stronger than, Fay.

BOHICA…

It is stronger than Fay, and it may have less interaction with land, which will allow it to develop further. The pressure hasn’t simply been decreasing, it has been jumping.
