A CBS –Associated Press report: Pet Food Poisoning Mystery May Be Solved

The breakthrough was made at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. A week ago, scientist Perry Martos mixed together a few drops of melamine and cyanuric acid, the two unauthorized chemicals found in tainted pet food.

In less than a second, they formed a mass of crystals nearly identical to crystals found in the kidneys of sickened animals.

“If you can imagine an instantaneous kidney stone — that’s essentially the way I would perceive it,” says Martos.

We now know why kidneys are failing – they are being blocked by these “instant kidney stones.” The new search is for a method of dissolving the stones without harming the animals. This confirms what the problem is, and makes targeting the research possible.

So is the cyanuric acid a naturally occurring substance, or another contaminant? Either way, this is at least a good start on the problem.

It would appear to be some of both. I would guess that the level of damage caused by the melamine is a result of how much cyanuric acid is present to create the crystals. Apparently cyanuric acid is part of the process to break down the melamine and could be present because of the action of microbes digesting melamine as well as directly included with the melamine scrap.

I think there is ample reason to believe that humans have had some contact with this poisoning problem, due to the high numbers of people sick with kidney stones, calcifications in wrists, feet, ears, saliva glands, brain – you name it….it’s in every community nationwide!! I have relatives dealing with some form of this in every part of the country!! When are they going to tell us about it…or will they?
