Stuff

I am not glued to the live tracking of the teams in the Yukon Quest, but there really isn’t much going on that is worthwhile.

John Murtha died, and on balance that is a loss because the old Marine was one of the few who didn’t forget the troops when he entered Congress. He finally got the Iraq War right, and fought it when he did, but he worked hard to get a lot of military industrial pork for his district.

What is also relevant is the fact that he had the best health insurance and care in the world, but apparently a small problem during a routine surgical procedure, cost him his life. Rest in peace, Marine.

If you are looking for “stuff” and actually have some money, you might consider the Too Liberal For Obama, [AKA: 2L4O] T-shirt.

Future batches will definitely be printed on Union-made, American shirts.

OTOH, PEN, the People’s E-mail Network, is giving away bumper stickers that are a reaction to the Supreme Court’s Synod decision about corporations and elections. If you were wondering, they don’t like it much.

They would like a donation, but don’t insist on it to get the bumper stickers.

Apparently the President is trying to arrange a televised meeting with leaders of Congress from both parties about health insurance. I fail to understand why he thinks that Republicans are going to compromise on anything. It isn’t going to happen. There are no ponies under the pile of manure.

Murtha was a man. Not like these dainty fainting posies who dominate both parties today, who are too scared of offending someone to speak their piece. Murtha was the kind of man who had no problem admitting he was wrong, and who was no more corrupt than any other Congressman — he just didn’t pretend, like the others do. He will be missed.

He felt it was his function to bring Federal money to his home district. He didn’t pull any of crap that Gingrich did, pushing unwanted C-130s on the Air Force because they were made in his district, while decrying pork in the budget.

The C-130 is a great aircraft, and I loved flying in them for a lot of reasons, but you really should let the paint dry on the markings before you replace them with a newer model that the Air Force doesn’t have spare parts for.

So sad…so sad…to see the “old guard” in DC leave one by oen.
Pork to one person is constitituent service to another. Some are more “porky” than others. Murtha did well by his district. He did well for the armed forces.

I hope “Mean Jean” Schmidt is racked with serious guilt and takes a full page ad out for sliming Murtha. I know she won’t…but one can wish.

That would require a conscience, and that is considered a liability to the Republicans. Caring about right and wrong leads to principles, and they don’t want those.

I figured that this thread would be a good place for this. 😉

I’m finally toying with WP on my own Dev server and looking for plugins etc… (I have no idea when I’ll actually get a live blog up on my web host… *sometime this year, maybe* is about as close as I can get to a timeline ATM. I’m absolutely flat out.) I found a spam plug that’s highly regarded at a couple dev blogs I read (when I have a chance to). Have you tried it Bryan? If so, be interested in your thoughts (or anyone else who may have given it a shot). If not, maybe someone will find it useful. 🙂

BTW, a commenter *MUST* have JS enabled, and extensions such as NoScript disabled for the blog to post a comment. I figure that’s simpler than having a CAPCHA for comments, which I personally dislike, but may be a last-gasp solution.

WP Hashcash

Like you and most sane bloggers… I definitely will not have time for SPAM! 😉 😀

(BTW, if anyone’s interested… We’ve had the longest electrical storm I can ever remember. It started late yesterday evening, and is still going. However, it only started raining about an hour and a half ago. Was just a sound/light show for most of the time. We lost Internet for most of the day today. Annoying!) 😉

As for Murtha… Yeah, have to agree with the above. During my time blogging at LM, I found Murtha to be one of the least-disagreeable Dem’s around. I didn’t agree with him always, but I could never paint him as the atypical political hypocrite.

At least he was once a Soldier who actually did put his own life on the line! I HAVE to respect that, and that alone puts him high above all the other cowardly politico’s. And he wasn’t forced to go kicking and screaming to Vietnam, he volunteered. He was S2(intel), a DI, and well (deservedly) decorated. I was saddened really with all the controversy over his *ethics*, all because he basically said the truth that people didn’t want to hear, a very common problem these days. He was also an Eagle Scout as a youth. 😉 I was a Cub, then a Scout, and I bet that served him as well as it did me when entering the Military service. 🙂 He spent 38 years in the Military, and retired with full honors in 1990 (and that was before the US Military was almost completely corrupted with politicians ass-kissers).

I’ll always remember him as an honorable man who positively achieved more in his military career than All the Warhawks of the past two decades have achieved in their entire lifetimes, whatever their political affiliation!

As for that empty, soulless, old slag, Schmidt (that old German joke about the ‘Schmidt House’ definitely and appropriately comes to mind), she should have her name legally changed to ‘Cruella De Vil’. I’ve always felt they were… kindred (I’d usually say *kindred spirits*, but that only applies if the pair have a soul).

R.I.P. with Honor and Respect Col. (ret) J. Murtha. Semper Fidelis!

Marines are always Marines, no matter what their current status may be. Murtha was what you saw, and said what he thought. He didn’t try to hide behind a mask, and didn’t apologize for doing what he felt was his duty. He earned his rank, no one gave it to him.

As for your anti-spam system, it seems to work pretty much like Spamfree, and probably pre-dates it. You and Hipparchia may turn off JS from time to time, and that would explain why it “hates” you, although there has been a flurry of upgrades to Spamfree lately, which might indicate a software problem that the developer has had a problem solving.

Capcha is definitely a PITA, as is registration, but the test for JS seems to be very effective as it requires a browser, not a ‘bot’, to comment, Spam is a major annoyance, no matter how off the beaten track your blog is.

i don’t turn off anything. it’s possible that the cats are playing on the computer when i’m not home to supervise them though.

Actually, there was another update today, so I suspect that there was something happening to more than just you and Kryten.

10 Kryten42 { 02.12.10 at 12:56 am }

I dunno. *shrug* 😆 I don’t even have ABP enabled for your blog, and accept all cookies. JS is fully enabled… And it doesn’t seem to matter whether I use FF, Opera or Chrome (though it does seem more likely to happen with FF).

“Just one of those things!” 😉

Well, they just upgraded again last night, so it looks like they are aware there’s a bug in their system.
