Olympic Security

NewsBiscuit is the Onion of the UK. They start with a real news article and then go to extremes.

They started with news that the military was looking for sites to put surface-to-air missiles for Olympic security and add their special twist to it.

As that didn’t cover their sense of absurdity, they decided the Royal Navy should be involved.

Having dealt with the military their next target was the UK Border Agency.

Well, it is better to laugh, than cry when your government has headed around the bend.

My MP Andrew Rosindell was gutted that Havering was not selected for missile batteries. “After all we are the most rural of all the London boroughs so plenty of good land as sites….and if a downed plane landed in Harold Hill, nobody would notice the extra damage.. and they vote Labour so they don’t count…”

I would imagine him saying something like that.

Harold Hill is a large local council estate. It is pretty rough but nowhere near as dangerous as some of the inner city estates.

I do like Newsbiscuit.

I think you could make it as a satire site by publishing the press releases of certain politicians. Florida Congresscritter Allen West and Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe come to mind. Of course we had an abundance when the Shrubbery was in the White House.

Some creative headlines and a few ‘smilies’ and you would be in business.

The Newsbiscuit is a wonderful example of ‘British’ humor, but I would imagine it also has the Onion’s problem of people accepting the stories as true.
