No Nukes!

Rumsfeld: Iran attack talk in ‘fantasy land’. While I can certainly respect Don Rumsfeld’s knowledge of ‘fantasy land’, as he seems to have spent a great deal of the last five years at that location developing a strategy that was supposed to make the United States more secure, I certainly cannot take his word for anything. The man lies. It should be front page news if any prediction he makes turns out to be true.

It is time for Congress to “Just say NO!”

No more preemptive strikes and absolutely, positively, unequivocally NO NUKES!

Agreed, no nukes. It would be a disaster, and we all ready have a disaster in Iraq.

Actually, Iraq will get a whole lot worse if we take any action against Iran.

Fallenmonk (see my blogroll; I don’t want to trip the comment link counter) points us to a Union of Concerned Scientists animation regarding nuclear bunker-busters. They suggest the very same thing you do, Bryan: using conventional bombs to seal the entrances. Makes sense to me.

Nukes are intrinsically different from all other weapons, in a way the current administration either fails to comprehend, or else comprehends and accepts the ensuing worldwide disaster. If the U.S. uses nuclear weapons in a pre-emptive strike, a (metaphorical) genie will be unleashed that may ultimately consume us all. One way or another, the nuts must be prevented from using nuclear weapons against Iran.

I’ve done some target designation and have dealt with underground facilities. I know about intelligent weapons, hell, my Dad designed them, and they are all developed locally.

We can locate the entrances with great certainty using the same equipment we deploy on space missions. We can seal the entrances and not risk releasing whatever stupidity is in the bunker.

If the nuke misses and doesn’t incinerate the contents of the bunker, but breaks the containment barriers, hell only knows what will be released in addition to the radiation.

I don’t guess any of these people have seen the Andromeda Strain.

OT: the link counter only puts it in moderation. I hand delete if necessary.
