Our FunDementals Are Crazier Than Yours
To be sure that there was no lessening of stupidity in the US-Iranian relations, President Ahmadinejad expressed his opinion that Oil Price Is Lower Than Value. We all know how talking about $100/barrel oil will make everyone act in a reasonable manner.
Like all FunDementals, Mr. Ahmadinejad felt that the approach of a possible war is the best time to launch an Islamic dress drive:
Some 200 extra police are to patrol the streets of Tehran confronting women who reveal ankles, sport thin headscarves or wear short or tight jackets.
Those found to be in breach of Iran’s Islamic dress code could face instant penalty fines.
The move is part of a blitz against anti-social behaviour, also targeting drugs and people who play loud music.
People walking pets or men sporting outlandish hairstyles could also face fines, of up to $55 (£31), said Tehran’s police chief, Mortaza Talai.
Iran’s clerical establishment says it wants to protect the values of the country’s Islamic revolution against a corrupting Western influence.
I’m surprised they didn’t offer the excuse that the traditional dress offers more protection from radioactive fallout.

Well, this is another indication that Iran is ready for a regime change — preferably a peaceful regime change.
I heard the son of the former Shaw on Mother ones radio, he spoke well of the people. They are fairly moderate, and ready for a moderate government.
However he cautioned against a military option for the US. This would vilify our efforts and turn the people agaist us.
The Bush Administration could help to over throw the Iranian government, with out troops or nuclear weapons. However, I doubt that they have the brain power.
The interview is on the Mother Jones website – it’s worth a listen.
It would probably amaze people, but Ahmadinejad is considered a whacko by important clerics in Iran. The clerics are interested in maintaining their hold on power, and they can’t do it if the Iranian population gets upset.
Iran is a very young country, which negates the power of the Iranian exiles, because a significant portion of the population doesn’t remember the Shah and knows nothing about Iranian life under the Shah, except what their parents tell them.
The US would be better off talking to whoever wants to talk in Iran. We need channels of communication, we need Iranian young people traveling abroad and going home. If we attack, they will support their country, no matter what they think of their government.
The current policy of refusing to talk and beaming broadcasts into Iran is wasting time and money. It hasn’t worked with Cuba, so why would it work in Iran?
Yeah, but the same people doing it in Iran are the only ones who believe it’s working in Cuba, so I don’t expect that policy to change anytime soon. Unfortunately.
Though what on earth could possibly be un-Islamic about walking a dog? I don’t recall any prohibitions on the owning of pets in the Qu’ran.
There was an Islamic commentator on the BBC who made a point about something by quoting and old saying: Only a fool does again what has already failed, which sounds like the classic definition of insanity or the Shrubbery.
I was under the impression that the thing about dogs was Arabic, not Islamic, like a lot of what people assume about Muslims.
