Now We’re Talking Real Money

As the late Senator Everett Dirksen [R-Illinois] said: “a billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you are talking about real money.”

Over at Facing South they are wondering if anyone will ask Rumsfeld about the over one trillion dollars that the Department of Defense can’t account for in its records.

When the Republicans said they were going to run the government like a business, they apparently meant Enron.

A terabyte of money, $ 1,000,000,000,000 – that’s real money, and Congress isn’t holding hearings.

It must have been diverted for use in the “war on tera” …

ROTFL! If I remember when I get home this evening, that may become the banner quote on my site. Now if only we can just get some of these folks into court, as we have done with the Enron criminals…

They are harassing guys in the hospital over meals and the body armor that was cut off when they were med-evaced, but they can’t account for a terabuck?

Oh, my. I like Steve Bates’ comment that they were going to run the govt like Enron. I think he’s got something there:)
As far as them harassing the guys in the hospital, at least they aren’t charging the people who died! Report: Injured Soldiers Drowning In Medical DebtThe report from the Government Accountability Office said another 400 who died in the wars had $300,000 in debt but that the Defense Department doesn’t pursue collection of people killed in combat.
Sickening!

I meant it’s sickening that they’re harassing the soldiers for medical debt, etc…

OWL, the “debts” are accounting errors that the Defense Department is making, the guys aren’t getting loans. Normally it’s equipment that isn’t accounted for or special pay that wasn’t stopped when the individuals were evacuated.
