Fortunately, Britain Knows He’s An Idiot

Via Ellroon, Attaturk reports on the Shrubbery’s gift to Gordon Brown.

First, no one is interested in a leather jacket with a fur collar in Maryland in July.

Second, Gordon Brown strikes me at the type of person who thinks “casual Friday” means wearing a striped button-down shirt with a suit and tie, rather than all white.

Third, when the recipient’s predecessor was openly called “the Right Honourable member from Crawford, Texas,” a jacket featuring the personal badge of the President of the United States, displays a level of ignorance normally associated with diapers and pabulum.

The head of a sovereign nation is not going to wear the personal badge of the head of another nation. Would anyone give Steve Jobs a Microsoft jacket and expect him to wear it?

I will give them a pass on not knowing what it would mean for a leader of the Labour Party to wear a primarily blue badge, rather than red, but we pay a “chief of protocol” who is supposed to stop this kind of stupid thing from happening. Why isn’t this person doing their job?

On a related note, I noticed that the Shrubbery was wearing another version of his standard jacket in Minneapolis. Like the others it had the Presidential seal and his name embroidered on it. I’m wondering if they have printed on the lining: “If found, please return to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC.”

No, they pin that note to his sleeve, where it serves the dual purpose of identifying him if found wandering dazed and confused without his handlers, and keeping him from wiping his nose on it in public.

He is such a total embarrassment and diplomatic disaster, although your governor is running a close second on the arrogance scale these days.

Hmm I never understood Blair’s total suport for Bush. He should have done what a previous Labour PM, Harol Wilson did when LBJ gave the UK an invite to join the Vietnam party (I to,d him to get stuffed).

Brown is a very different beast to Blair. Despite assurances that the “special relationship” will be as strong (and just as one way), I get the deeling that Brown will slowly distance the UK from the US.

I get a feeling that Brown realizes the danger that Blair did not of dealing with someone as incurious and shallow as the Shrubbery. The difference in the political systems produce very different results. The British system requires a long apprenticeship, where the American system does not.

Quite literally, anyone can become President who was born in the US and lived past the age of 35 with no training or qualifications for the job, as long as they can attract money. This obviously gives the people with wealth a huge advantage.

I think Brown is correct in distancing Britain from our current mess and waiting to see what happens in 2008.
