No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

You do your part in helping the police and do you get any appreciation?

An individual fleeing the police enters your property and you stop him. Do they give you a medal, an appreciation dinner? No, they arrest you and you’re facing execution.

WPLG reports Man Trying To Escape Police Killed By Gator

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A man who allegedly was fleeing police was attacked and killed by an alligator in a pond, Local 10 reported.

Miccosukee police, assisted by Sweetwater canine units, responded to a call on the Miccosukee Indian Reservation about vehicles being broken into.

Local 10 learned the larger alligator was well known on the reservation and employees had nicknamed it Poncho.

If an alligator either digests or kills a person it’s a state law through Florida Fish and Wildlife that it be destroyed, so the alligator will be put in an incinerator or be buried, Tongen reported.

It’s just not fair. If he had been a redneck instead of a gator, he would be in the legislature next year.

Poor alligator. Can’t they just put him on death row and forget about him like they do other killers?

I had no idea about the digesting, killing law. I suppose you have to get rid of gators that have learned humans taste good.

Couldn’t they just sentence the ‘gator to a life of attempting to eat GOP politicians? I find them hard to stomach, and they’re bound to be impossible to digest…

Couldn’t they just put Poncho on a spit and roast him? Shame to waste all of that protein. Then again I like Steve’s idea but it would probably be ruled animal cruelty not to mention that a big gator with indigestion is probably not a good thing.

Poncho for US Senate.

Actually the trapper points to the real problem: people have been feeding him. He wouldn’t stay in the pond, and certainly wouldn’t hang around people in normal circumstances, but if someone has been feeding him he will naturally associate people and food. Almost every “problem” gator we have up on the Panhandle can be traced to some idiot feeding gators and then acting surprised when they come up to the house when they’re hungry.

They come and go at the local University of West Florida campus. They eat all of the bigger fish in the retention ponds, then they leave for the river to find something to eat. The ponds are stocked with fish to keep down the mosquitoes, and the only change is that fishing is no longer permitted.

As soon as they pulled up the body with the bite marks, Poncho was toast, Hipparchia. I doubt they even removed the duct tape from his mouth. People keep interfering and don’t realize they danger they pose to the feral animals.
