Sure They Are Following The Rules
…But what about the “unknown unknowns” that they might be guilty of if the US knew what they were?
The BBC version: UN mixed on Iran nuclear report
The UN nuclear watchdog has said Iran has provided it with information about its past nuclear activities as agreed under a work plan made in August.
But a new IAEA report also said Iran had not suspended uranium enrichment work as demanded by the UN Security Council and had 3,000 centrifuges.
…The confidential report by IAEA Director-General Mohamed ElBaradei, a copy of which was obtained by the BBC, said Iran had made progress in responding to questions about its past nuclear activities.
“Iran has provided sufficient access to individuals and has responded in a timely manner to questions and provided clarifications and amplifications on issues raised in the context of the work plan,” the report said.
It also said the answers Iran had given about the history of its centrifuge programme, the machines used to enrich uranium, were consistent with the IAEA’s own findings.
So, Iran has lived up to the agreement it made, but is not going to stop the totally legal enrichment of uranium that it is current doing, just like it said it was. The US may not like the enrichment program, but it is allowed by the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty that Iran signed, and is necessary to operate a civilian nuclear power plant.
Iran is in compliance with its treaty obligations, no matter what the US may think, and there is no evidence of a weapons program, but that won’t stop the US from making a lot of noise amount Iran not complying with UN Security Council resolutions, to which the Iranians will probably point out that Israel still hasn’t complied with Security Council resolutions from 1967, so sit on it an rotate. In the mean time the rest of the world is starting to look at the US as the crazy old lady down the street who keeps calling about burglars, and talks to her house plants and someone named Edith who doesn’t apparently exist. The cops go anyway because it’s always good for a story after work, she’ll call the complaints board if you don’t show up.
