Happy Thanksgiving

TurkeyMy view of Thanksgiving was skewed by my Father’s attitude. Having grown up on a poultry farm, he viewed the holiday as the culmination of weeks of work “processing” dozens of turkeys to be frozen and readying a few dozen more for fresh delivery. We generally ate ham when he was alive.

Having been on my Grandfather’s farm at this time of year I can understand my Dad’s attitude: our meal was subject to interruption by people picking up a fresh turkey at the last minute. A sale is a sale when you are business for yourself.

The Foxistas have forced YouTube to take down the funniest Thanksgiving show ever, the WKRP Turkey Give-away, and the writers are on strike, so read a book, or, gasp, talk to your family.

Enjoy your meal and try to forget about the world’s problems for a day: they’ll still be there on Friday.

Update: Undeniable Liberal at Maru’s has located part of the WKRP show.

Update II: Aha, Pachacutec at the Pyro Poodle Puddle supplies the punchline bit in the second cut: “As God is My Witness, I Thought Turkeys Could Fly”.

Happy T-day, Bryan. I hope you have a great meal in the company of good people. Stay warm, dry, and well-fed!

I fed the cats turkey tonight, and they’ll get more tomorrow, so the world is a better place.

I’m hoping that some of the current thunderstorms we’re having get into Georgia and the Carolinas, because they need it up there more than we need it here.

I had a college roommate from Hawaii who had worked summers in a pineapple cannery. She wouldn’t eat the fruit anymore. Having a hand in the preparation can sometimes kill the … taste for it.

Happy Turkey Day to you and yours, Bryan!

Fallenmonk just blogged that his location got a good rain! It’s mildly chilly but partly sunny here. Hope you’re having a good holiday. Gotta go… dinner is in about an hour here.

I worked canning green beans, and developed an actually allergy to raw green beans, which I used to love. Turkeys, OTOH was hate at the first drag through the droppings in the pen.

Happy Thanksgiving, Ellroon. Next year – squirrel pie.

Happy Turkey Day.

Here’s to those “pardoned” turkeys.

(and…no…not talking about Scotter, et al.)

I know about FM’s rain, Steve, it’s from the Gulf between Hipparchia and me, and I was watching it stream inland last night beginning about 11pm. We’ll get your cold weather tonight.

Jill, that was a real turkey, not one of the fake white ones. I have nothing against the real ones, just the all white, unbalanced, totally stupid, commercial ones.

Have a marvelous holiday…The Horde will be receiving their turkey treats later in the day. They enjoy this holiday as much as we all do. Be well.

One of the nice things about feral cats is there are few leftovers. They know how to clean a carcass, CG. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Ah…. pie.

You have to catch ’em first, so don’t skin your squirrels ’til they’re bagged.

Best Thanksgiving show EVAH.

I understand that real turkeys could have flapped their wings enough to have survived a Turkey Drop but first would have made life hell for that helicopter pilot.

13 Bryan { 11.23.07 at 11:28 am }

Wild turkeys can fly and roost in trees, but the domesticated variety have overdeveloped breasts and underdeveloped wings. They definitely would have caused problems in that helicopter and left an odor that would be nearly impossible to get out.
