Not Funny

Although, of course, everyone says it has nothing to do with his Coleman/Franken comments, CNN reports that the Senate strips Specter of seniority after party switch.

It was widely reported that Harry Reid had promised Arlen Specter [DINO – Arlen Specter] that he would keep his seniority if he switched parties, seniority being a major campaign theme in his re-election bids, the rank-and-file obviously were not on board with that deal.

Specter now says that his comments about the Minnesota Senate race were just a bit of light-hearted humor, but following several votes against Democratic bills, and his stated opposition to bills coming up, the Senate Democrats had had enough.

There is a statement that his seniority will be re-examined in the next Congress, if Specter is re-elected, which is a not so veiled announcement that he is on probation, and had better start acting like a Democrat if he wants his seniority back.

What a joke. Specter openly admits that he funnels money to Pennsylvania. He is consumed with his own power. He thinks his vote should count more. Does this sound like a democracy to you?

We need to weed out Congress. That’s the problem here. These guys have been there too long, they are more concerned with their own personal gain than the success of the nation. Where is the public service in “public service?”

Congress needs some new blood, and I say that as an old guy. You do anything too long and you get stale.

The feeling I get from a lot of these people is ego, not service, and that’s on both sides of the aisle.

They should go home with their retirements and annoy their grandchildren or great grandchildren.

Agree with all the above. 🙂

I think it was also a snub at Harry Reid too by the Dem’s. 😉 Hope they do that a lot more often! I see Specter is a true-to-form politician. He now say’s he ‘just misspoke about Norm Coleman’ and when asked who he’s backing now in elections, Specter said, “I’m looking for more Democratic members. Nothing personal.” Of course, we all believe him. Aha.

If they get in and stay too long, they forget why they ran in the first place. It becomes a career without any purpose except extending it.

This isn’t a game, it is government, and it is time to take it seriously.
