The Problem With Blogs

The thing about blogs is that they have archives, so if someone says that “I never said that” you can find the entry where they did say that.

Avedon Carol makes the point that Obama was presented as a liberal, by the media and many supporters.

These days the remaining members of the cult claim that it wasn’t that way at all, that people projected their views on Obama, that he didn’t make that claim.

As one of the people who recognized he was a Republican masquerading as a Democrat at the beginning of 2008, I remember what happened when you brought it up at various and sundry blogs. I admit that only a few [who are no longer on my blog roll] implied, or flat-out called me a racist. but at a minimum you were called a Clinton supporter, which was also untrue.

I’m a former Democrat because of that garbage, but Avedon Carol’s larger point is that he was elected by people who overwhelmingly thought he was a liberal. People wanted a liberal, and thought they voted for one. The Democrats are in trouble because they decided to act like Republicans instead of Democrats.

And The Ignorant Shall Lead Them..

Jill Schlesinger, editor-at-large for CBS MoneyWatch, is not a lawyer, she is a certified financial planner, which is why she shouldn’t have written this article, Foreclosures Halted In 23 States: Plantiffs’ [sic] Lawyers Rejoice.

Ms Schlesinger is blissfully unaware that in foreclosure cases the banks are the plaintiffs and homeowners are the defendants [The ad she included makes that clear.]. She is unaware that the “robo-signers” are signing court documents under penalty of perjury, and are committing crimes, not just ignoring bureaucratic niceties. She is unaware that the title insurance companies are dropping the banks concerned like hot rocks, because they have corrupted the deeds on the properties involved.

Ms Schlesinger is not concerned if a few people have their credit ruined and are thrown out of homes that they own. She is unconcerned about people who bought property and are making their payments, but the property is being foreclosed on because the bank they bought it from, didn’t actually hold the mortgage when they foreclosed and resold the property. She is unconcerned that many banks require that you be behind on your mortgage payments before they will discuss refinancing, and then foreclose before any discussion takes place. She is unconcerned that people were defrauded by banks, but can’t get banks to respond.

Ms Schlesinger saves all of her concern for the poor, overworked bank employees who are slaving away in their cubicles destroying the integrity of the real estate system.

Now I Get It

John McKay has cleared up some of my confusion about where a few of these off-the-wall wingnut ideas come from – their perverse understanding of the Constitution.

They are concerned about Sharia law, because they want to implement their version of Biblical law, and under their distorted view of the First Amendment, it can be done.

All of those people who keep quoting the First Amendment as a reason that Sharia law can’t be implemented in the US are thinking of a wall between church and state, but the fundies think of it as a check-valve or diode, a one-way restriction. While government isn’t allowed to interfere with the church, the church is free to do whatever it wants to government.

They don’t understand that the government can’t enforce religious laws precisely because they are religious, and enforcement would be the equivalent of establishment. They can’t make it to the logical conclusion because they believe what they want to do is morally superior.

In their universe it makes perfect sense.

Other Offices

There are slim pickings on the Florida ballot when it comes to state-wide offices.

Nether major party has put forth a candidate qualified for the job of Chief Financial Officer.

The Republican, Jeffery “Jeff” Atwater will talk about his MBA and banking experience, but his last actual experience as a banker was for Barnett Bank, which was taken over in 1997. His next job was in marketing for a bank, not in actual banking. Further, he can talk all he wants about looking out for taxpayers, but as President of the Florida Senate, he got the “fees” on your license plates and driver’s license doubled and increased a number of other fees. If the Well from Hell hadn’t exploded, he was ready to move forwarded on a coastal drilling bill.

Loranne Ausley, the Democrat, seems to be a nice enough person, but I see no relevant experience for her since 1997 when she left the Federal government.

I would be much happier if there were an accountant in the race from either party, but they don’t tend to enter politics. This should really be a professional position outside of politics, but that will never happen.
