So Much For US World Standing

The US further isolates itself in support of the Likud: U.S. cuts UNESCO funding after Palestinian vote

(CBS/AP) WASHINGTON – The Obama administration on Monday cut off funding for the U.N. cultural agency, after its member countries defied an American warning and approved a Palestinian bid for full membership in the body.

The lopsided vote to admit Palestine as a member of UNESCO, which only the United States and 13 other countries opposed, triggered a long-standing congressional ban on U.S. funding to U.N. bodies that recognize Palestine as a state before an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal is reached. The State Department said a $60 million payment to UNESCO scheduled for November would not be made as a result, and U.S. officials warned of a “cascade” effect at other U.N. bodies that might follow UNESCO’s lead.

If you don’t pay your dues, you don’t get to vote. The Likud wing of the US Congress made it a law that the US can’t support organizations that formally recognize the existence of Palestine, so we will lose our membership in organization after organization.

I’m still waiting to hear what benefit the US derives from the support of the failed policies of the Israeli government.

The benefit is that those pesky yids are over *there* instead of over *here*, ’cause of course if the state of Israel collapses then we’d end up having to grant them all refugee status or get accused of creating a new Holocaust. That $5B/year we send to Israel? Just the price to pay for keeping the yids over there instead of here.

Well, that and the Christian Taliban think the Yids gotta be over there rather than over here so that Jesus can come back and suck them all up to Heaven with some giant vacuum cleaner. The Christianists, of course, not the yids, who of course are all going to Hell, why, Pastor Roberts says so, so it must be true!

Yes, I suppose that the racism is part of it, but I getting really tired of paying for it. There are a lot better uses for $5 billion that giving it to foreign whackos who spy on us.

Whatever you do, don’t ask Stella’s ex. He finally got his book on Israel published last week, and the prose is so overheated that the pages are still smoking…

It bothers me a great deal that an American senator (at least one) can have such an unswerving dedication to Israel. Sometimes I question his loyalty to America.

There are multiple Congresscritters who have put Israel before the US in many ways, and it makes me a decidedly ‘unhappy camper’.
