It was afternoon and I was on my way to a chemistry class. I had stopped for a drink of water when the news came over the speakers in the classrooms.

For those who weren’t alive at the time: remember what you felt on September 11, 2001 for a taste of November 22, 1963. It was a massive change for the worldview of my generation and it marked the beginning of a period of disruption and decline in the civility of American society. Arthur had died and Camelot fell.

At his inauguration John Kennedy made the point: “If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.”

A sad day. I wonder what he would think of the way things have become?

I haven’t posted any quotes for awhile. Been too busy, and a lack of interest… Anyway, maybe a few JFK might approve of would be in order. 😉

“Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because if there be one he must approve of the homage of reason more than that of blindfolded fear.”
– Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August 10, 1787

Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law.
– Thomas Jefferson, letter to Dr. Thomas Cooper, February 10, 1814

“As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has itself no character or enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext, arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.”
– John Adams, The Treaty of Tripoli

“A man’s ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.”
– Albert Einstein

“I say quite deliberately that the Christian religion, as organized in its churches, has been and still is the principal enemy of moral progress in the world.”
– Bertrand Russell

“What can be asserted without proof can be dismissed without proof.”
– Christopher Hitchens

“Atheism isn’t a belief system. I have a belief system but it’s not “based on” atheism, it’s just not based on the existence of a god. I make none of my moral, social, or artistic decisions based on any god or superstitions. Saying atheism is a belief system is like saying not going skiing is a hobby. I’ve never been skiing. It’s my biggest hobby. I literally do it all the time.”
– Ricky Gervais

OK… So, more than a few. Been a while… 😉

I know for a fact that he would be pissed off about what has happened to our space program.

He was a ‘hawk’, but he wasn’t a fool, and didn’t suffer fools around him.

On your quotes, I like the button on Earth-Bound Misfit “I have nothing against God – it’s his fan club I can’t stand.”

Oh yes, I agree with that. 🙂 I also think he would have relized the consequences of Global Warming, and would have at least listened to the warnings from the Pentagon. *shrug*

I watched “Earth – The Operators Manual” not long ago. Very well done. and created and narrated by a Republican Christian Scientist!! I’m amazed the guy is still alive! Amazin! 😉

I saw this sig somewhere a while ago, and it just made me say “yep!” But I do love irony, and most religions have an over abundance of irony. 😆

“Worship me! Or I’ll torture you for eternity.”
-Your loving God.

He was a old-time Democratic politician from Boston, but he always allowed for reality and surrounded himself with intelligent people.
