"There are two novels that can change a bookish 14-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. Uh… right, maybe they don’t sell any black clothes, everything is pink.. or something…
My favorite wtf quote was from Leon Spinks who rose to glory briefly by winning the heavyweight championship against Ali. Pulled over for drunken driving, he declared,”I ain’t denying there wasn’t no bottle!” Riiiiiight.
i like their attitude. i’d shop there, assuming they have really neat kids toys, since that’s all the christmas shopping i’m doing.
They’re a music store, and I’ve been told in the past that they have good prices on guitars, amps, drum kits, keyboards, etc., but the older store downtown is the better place to rent and buy band instruments.
I’ve given up on toys, they are too dangerous these days. If I had a workshop setup I might build some toys, but “store bought” is too apt to be contaminated.
darn it. these kids aren’t quite old enough for musical instruments. i’ll have to file that away for the future.
an upside to the dangerous toys: much as i hate hate hate shopping, i’ve had a lot of fun trying out all the toys while looking for a few possibly uncontaminated ones.
When I lived in New York I could drive down to Amish country, enjoy the foliage and buy wooden toys that would last forever. Down here everything is plastic. I’m hoping for a crafts fair at a local church.
Toys for Tots is taking a real beating on this mess.
Added: I don’t know why they used the hyphen, it would have been clearer without it.
Not old enough for musical instruments? How young are they?
The hyphen is indeed rather devastating to their (presumed) message.
Amish goods of all sorts are a marvel. There were some around at Oberlin BPI in 1981, and a lot more in nearby towns. I learned firsthand that “technology” is not an exclusively 20th- and 21st-century concept.
There’s always the drum, recorder, and single octave xylophone for young children [especially if you’re an uncle and don’t have to listen].
I would have made “black friday” more obvious, and, if there were no quotes, gone with “black-friday” to clarify.
They usually had an all wooden train that was really nice, although in the hands of an angry child it could cause some damage, that’s what parents are for.
I celebrate Buy Nothing Day the day after Thanksgiving.
I have seen ads for stores opening up at 4:00 a.m. tomorrow. It is pure insanity.
They are in full panic mode, Jill, and realize that most people are broke. I have lights to string, so I’m not going anywhere.
their hyphen placement is grammatically correct under the old rules of hyphenation, but unfortunately politically incorrect. the new rules encourage adding more hyphens than would otherwise be prescribed in such cases. anti-black-friday would have been a bit better.
even better might have been black friday anti-sale.
hmmm… xylophone. i wonder if they’re lead-free. these are my brother’s kids, i live in a different state from them all, and i can’t think of a better way to pay him back for his being such a brat back when we were kids. 😈
I still hear about the original R2D2 robot I bought my niece and didn’t include the instructions for the removal of the battery. That little sucker beeped for almost three days.
The only way to tell is to locate one and find out who makes it. I don’t remember seeing a xylophone listed on any of the recalls.
you deliberately held onto those instructions? that’s just cold.
What, you mean there are monster sales today? Why wasn’t I told about this?
Hipparchia, it’s called pay back.
Well, Michael, they didn’t want crowds, so they haven’t been filling my mail box with flyers for week. 😈
