Friday Ark #166…
We’ll post links to sites that have Friday (plus or minus a few days) photos of their chosen animals (photoshops at our discretion and humans only in supporting roles). Watch the Exception category for rocks, beer, coffee cups, and….? Visit all the …
Awake or aslep, they contrive to looks cute! Heaven for our four is a full belly and the fire…
Actually, jams, I took her down from there once because she kept falling asleep and almost falling off, but she insisted on getting back up, so I took her picture instead. She did come off less than gracefully a little later, but stared at me with the standard “I meant to do that” look.
Right now, Income is the only one moving around, the rest are clumped together.
Aw, too much turkey, huh? She does look sweet, sitting there. Perhaps, she wanted her picture taken, and so, kept getting up there. My cats didn’t get any turkey. They did get treats.
Heh…..I feed my Chihuahuas @ a tablespoon of cooked ground turkey every night for dinner. I like to think it keeps them quiet at night. Of course, when they get past puppy stage they tend to lay around a lot under blankets and doze most of the day.
Actually, OWL, that’s a spot normally occupied by Sox, which is the main reason she got up there as she follows him around a lot. There was room for her to lay down, but she decided to sit just like Sox. Sox is not a good role model.
Ground turkey is one of the standard forms of protein I use for the feral cats, I add vegetable oil because it is so lean, but cats require a lot more fat than dogs, and mix it with rice and vitamins. It’s as good as the canned stuff.
i’m always looking for new recipes for the pets. you wouldn’t mind posting yours by any chance, would you?
It’s fairly straight forward – a cup and a half of rice [before cooking], a tablespoon of garlic powder, a quarter cup of vegetable oil, a couple of teaspoons of brewers yeast, a couple of cat multi-vitamins, and a bound of protein [ground turkey, ground beef, chicken leg quarter, mackerel, etc.] . I boil the protein with a little water and use the “stock” to loosen the cooked rice. The garlic powder and brewers yeast is supposed to help with fleas. Cats need more fat than dogs, so I add the oil to the rice cooker and it helps to prevent sticking. It makes enough for four plates [two plates/day] for the feral cats and provides a change to the kibble.
To this basic recipe I add any cooking juices from my own supper and left overs, so there may be some veggies, a few chunks of meat or fish, etc. I occasionally do one with chicken livers, but you can’t use liver very often or you get a vitamin A overload.
Possums, raccoons, and box turtles will eat this as well as feral cats, but I think there’s too much fat for dogs. The rice is supposed to be better than the wheat or corn used in most canned.
You think YOUR kitties have it cold…I think the felines of Mt. Washington have your brood beat…

No one in their right mind lives around Mt. Washington. The weather is totally bizarre.
I remember growing up in Hanover, NH and pretty regularly hearing on the radio that a plane crashed into the Mt. Washington….apparently it gets foggy, cloudy and down right windy.
I absolutely love the photo of the kitty with the frozen whiskers. Now THAT’s cold!
The rime frost isn’t that cold, but it’s a reaction to below freezing temperature on body moisture, like sweat, or in the cat’s case, breath. The water vapor collects on the hair and then freezes. It happened all the time walking around Fairbanks in the cold season.
What a little fur face! Charming pose, love the tail tuck.
Actually, like her mother, Props has an extremely long tail and it circles her when she sits like that.
