RIP Lurch
Lurch was the Army vet who has been manning the controls at Main and Central since Jo Fish of Democratic Veteran made the space available a while back. Apparently he has died, but the family doesn’t want anything posted on the ‘Net just yet. Just like most old sergeants, Lurch wrote common sense pieces about the absurdity of the military. Those of us who read him regularly will miss his voice.
Update 02/24/08: Fixer has the details on Lurch’s passing.

I am not sure why the family is keeping it low key. Lurch was an infrequent visitor over at my place but I enjoyed his take on what was happening in the military and especially in Shrub’s folly. He’ll be missed.
He didn’t comment at other places a lot, but he visited and read regularly. He still had contacts, and did his research.
I don’t think his family knew about the blog, and I’m not sure they understand about the community that grew up around it.
So sorry to hear of a “voice” silenced at a time in history where we so desperately need voices like his.
It’s a bit uncomfortable when it’s people near to your age who are gone suddenly. He didn’t cut the Pentagon any slack.
