Feeling Better
The CBC’s latest story on the Influenza A H1N1 [OK, swine flu] outbreak, Scientists starting to believe swine flu outbreak won’t be so bad, is in line with what I’ve been thinking, but I really want some hard numbers on transmission and mortality rates, before I dismiss any possibility.
What got to me was the end of the article:
Work also continues on developing a vaccine.
Once that happens, likely in late fall or early winter, Canada will be in better shape than many other countries since there is a vaccine manufacturing facility in Quebec and a deal with its owner, GlaxoSmithKline, that guarantees supply for Canadians.
The US gets the marketing department, and the supposedly “free market”, which runs out of vaccine frequently, even though we pay more than anyone else. The “terrible” Canadian system, not only pays a lot less, they have guaranteed supplies.

Well, it is a PITA, Andante, in more ways than one since it is a swine flu. Nelson is under the impression that he is doing what the people of Nebraska want. He should spend a bit more time in Nebraska, and less in Washington. What people want when things are going well, isn’t what they want when things go badly.
The number one threat to family ranchers and feedlots are the agribusinesses who control the market. Smithfield has done more to destroy family farms than the government, flu, and the weather combined.
I’ve been watching ‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’ for years and he’s always great for a laugh, but also for putting things in their *proper* perspective. On his April 21st & 22nd shows, he had a 2-part segment on why Americans should be terrerfied of Socialism and sent Wyatt Cenac to Sweden (because the usual moronic pundits are scared the uSA will become Sweeden) to investigate what’s so bad about Sweden. 🙂 If you haven’t seen it, I recommend you watch (or download) the shows:

And also covered the wingnut hysteria being led by the insane wingnut Bachmann aver the US signing the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The only two contried that haven’t signed it, are the USA and Somalia. 🙂 So, I guess that the USA wants to be allowed to exploit children like Somalia does. 🙂 Of course, we all know the USA does, but if they sign the Convention, then there might be a chance in a million they might be held accountable (as with all the other UN conventions that the USA ignores). 🙂 Bachmann wants to amend the US Constitution to guarantee Parents rights in the USA. LMAO I’d put that in the same category as the KKK amending the constitution to guarantee the rights of negro’s. 🙂 Oh, wait… they tried that via their GOP representatives. I’m sure that if the KKK allowed women in, Bachmann would be a shoe-in for a card. 🙂
BTW, there is a great interview with the Author (Richard Beeman) of a great book (Plain, Honest Men) on how the US Constitution was created on the 23rd show. 🙂 I’d like to get a copy of that. Another good book review (called ‘Dread’) was on the 22nd (I think).
Someone really needs to see about getting Congresscritter Bachman’s meds adjusted so that she lands on this planet occasionally. I think that editorial writers, cartoonists, and satirists have moved to her district to ensure she gets reelected.
I just can’t believe that she comes from Minnesota, unless there is some secret project by the state government to relocate all of the state’s whackos to her district. Then again, they did elect Jesse “The Body” Ventura, a professional wrestler as governor, much to the surprise of everyone, including Jesse.
This is the one drawback of the secret ballots, people can decide to get silly for the entertainment value.
