Seizing Defeat From Victory
By throwing those needing heating assistance or use food stamps or are unemployed overboard, Harry Reid managed to grovel his way to a $170 billion stimulus package, the House has since passed it and sent the bill to the Shrubbery.
When do the Democrats get to win one Harry? Is it too much to ask after we organized a Democratic majority in the Senate, that the party occasionally wins a vote?

This was extremely disappointing. They actually cut the measures that all the experts feel have the most chance of actually stimulating the economy.
That’s right, FM, they removed all of the stimulus from the package are issuing “payday loans” that will be deducted from next year’s tax refunds.
How about we all stamp the check envelop “Return to Sender”? (I’d like to stamp it “Stimulate this!” but I don’t think the post office will know what to do with that.) Still, I would hope millions of Americans sending back their “rebates” would send a message. (Perhaps, in an election year, we should refer to these checks as “re-baits” since the candidates are trying to hook us. Just how dumb do those who sit on the Hill think we are?).
We could just use them to buy euros or loonies [Canadian dollars], to see if they’ll take the hint, but there are still people in trouble on the Gulf Coast and new people in trouble in the Mid-South, so they’ll probably get it.
Most seniors remember either the Depression or other recessions, so I’m guessing they’ll put it in their mattresses or a coffee can out back. The good news is that the new plastic coffee cans won’t leak or rust out like the old cans.
Unfortunately, they don’t think we are any smarter than they are, and if my current congresscritter [Joe Scarborough’s replacement] loses two more IQ points they’ll have to start watering him.
