Discovery Makes It

Frankly, I’m not sure I would want to fly when one of the safety concerns is circling vultures, but NASA launched the shuttle Discovery apparently successfully.

There were some pieces of foam shed during lift-off, but at a later time in the launch cycle and it is felt that they were carried away from the vehicle.

But hopefully, there were no circling vultures. They spent a lot of time cleaning up the run over animals, etc. Vultures would have to go elsewhere. Maybe they took the dead animals to another area.

I’ve been in aircraft that have lost engines to geese and seagulls, and they can definitely do damage. Turkey Vultures are big birds and really could do some damage if they slammed into the shuttle.

Baiting in a near by area would be the best plan. The Cape is a wildlife preserve, so the vultures are part of the environment.
