It’s Beatrix Potter‘s birthday, so go read The Tale of Peter Rabbit at Project Gutenberg.

Well…I’ve always *suspected* that Beatrix was *influenced* (to put it kindly) by the 1910 works of Thornton W. Burgess and His Peter Rabbit character et. al. (Old Mother West Wind) in the creation or her characters.

But Old Mother West Wind stories are my FAVs by far – and the books I learned to read before school and the “FUN with Dick and Jane” series of learning-readers back then. *smile*)

Beatrix finally got “Peter” published in 1902 and the illustrations are of actual animals. Her parents wanted her to be their housekeeper and didn’t allow her much freedom.

Her early life was a bit of a sad tale.

RUN, SPOT, RUN…as I remember.
