Ha! I think a lump of coal is a MUUUUUCH better gift than raw liver!
Actually the liver was a threat that my great grandmother from Berlin was constantly threatening kids with near Christmas. I’m not aware of anyone else using it, but she never wavered in the threat.
A piece of liver with onions and a slice of bacon makes a pretty good meal, and a lump of coal would be pretty handy in the winter, especially to cook the liver.
