100 Years Of Radio Broadcasts
Today marks the 100th anniversary of radio broadcasting with the first “program” consisting of O Holy Night played on a violin and readings from the Bible by the Canadian inventor of AM radio, Reginald Fessenden from a station at Brant Rock, Massachusetts.

That was a great piece on Fessenden this morning on NPR.
And I loved the lead-in that the signal is just about reaching Ursa Major now. I do hope that the good citizens of whatever planet picks it up won’t think we’re completely nuts in thirty-five years after they’ve had their fill of Father Coughlin and World War II, and that they won’t send Gort for us when they catch up with Rush.
I guess we have to worry any someone being closer in and annoyed. I think the most likely scenario is a “Detour” beacon for construction.
