Wow, Someone Is Annoyed

From CNN’s Ticker: GOP nominee endorses Democrat

(CNN) – The Republican Party nominee in this week’s special congressional election in New York endorsed her Democratic opponent Sunday, one day after releasing supporters from their commitment to support her, the Watertown Daily Times reported on its Web site.

New York Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava said she was backing Democrat Bill Owens over Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in the special election for ex-GOP Rep. John McHugh’ seat in this northern New York congressional district. McHugh resigned to become Secretary of the Army.

One of the things people don’t realize is that Doug Hoffman doesn’t actually live in the district. He lives and has a business in Lake Placid, which is in the 20th district. That was probably a major factor in his not being selected as the Republican candidate along with the fact that he has never been elected to office. Ms Scozzafava not only lives in the district, she has won election to the state legislature from within the district. She was the better candidate, and shares the political views of John McHugh.

If I were the local Democratic Party chair in her county, I would certainly make her aware that the welcome mat was out. If I were the Republican chair, I would be worried.

she also sounds like she might be to the left of some of our present crop of conservadems, though i have to admit, i haven’t followed the race all that closely.

i won’t provide a link, but google informs me that michelle malkin has described scozzafava as a radical leftist. these people are nuts. otoh, they’re all making more money than i am. maybe i should consider a career change. i think i could bring myself to call randomly selected politicians ‘radical leftists’ if i were being paid enough money to do so.

How can Hoffman run in NY-23 if he doesn’t live there? Is there a quirk in NY state election laws, or has he filed (illegally) from an address other than the one at which he actually resides?

Another question: is Scozzafava a sign of the re-emergence of the moderate Republican heretofore thought to be extinct, or is she just so seriously annoyed that she wants to get even, even at the cost of her political career?

(David, for once, you’re right, and I’ll agree with you in your own words: your ignorance of American politics is apparent for the whole world to see.)

Ms Scozzafava is the Republican whip in the New York Assembly [lower house] and a normal Rockefeller Republican. They may appear liberal by the standards of the national party and whackos, but they are not liberals by the standards of New York politics, where most Democrats, are real liberals. The divide in New York is the difference between the large cities and the rural areas of upstate.

I think that she is really annoyed that the Party didn’t come to her assistance when she was attacked by the whackos. She has been a long time member, as evinced by her leadership in the Assembly, and the state party didn’t respond. The Republicans lost what should have been an easy win for their Assembly leader, James Tedisco, in the neighboring 20th district in the special election to replace Kirsten Gillibrand. Ms Scozzafava is popular in her Assembly district. I don’t think party labels will make much difference to her chances of being elected, if she wants to stay in the Assembly.

Being a wealthy man, I don’t doubt that Hoffman has property, probably a hunting camp, up in the Adirondacks that he is using for this run. It will cost him, as he has to shift his homestead exemption as well as voter registration to that address, but the reality is that he doesn’t actually live there. This is the same dodge that Cheney used so he could be Vice President, changing his address from Houston to Wyoming, because the President and Vice President can’t be from the same state. A technically, that may, or may not, make a difference.

Mr. Duff, you are the only one here who can’t seem to grasp that three is a larger number than two, as in three choices are more than two choices.

Initially the voters had the choice of three parties, two men and a woman, two from from the southeast corner of the district and one from the western side, two novices and one experienced legislator. Now they must choose between two parties whose candidates are novice guys from the southeast corner of the district. That is less of a choice in every way.

“… tell me where I got it wrong…” – DD

Heh. Where did you not get it wrong? I haven’t got all night to explain American politics to you, but in about a year of suffering your inane comments, I have found one thing crystal clear, DD: you haven’t a clue about American politics. Not a clue. When your lens is cracked, it doesn’t matter what you view through it.
