Waiting for Alberto
While it may only be a minimal hurricane, waiting for it is nerve racking, so how about some kind thoughts for Aikane Leo, Robert, and Van, who are closer than I want to be to the path.
The eye of the storm is not the only place that bad things happen, the outer-most band of the storm generates tornadoes, that are every bit as destructive. While I sat here watching Ivan come ashore 30 miles to the west of me, the tornadoes from the outer band killed 8 people in and around Panama City 60 miles to the east.
Hopefully the damage will be minimal and the rains will help to control the wildfires.

…whether they want me to or not, I will be saying a prayer for those in the path of Alberto…
By the way, I checked, Bryan, and the surrounding volcanoes appear to be pretty quiet right now, and we aren’t likely to get a blizzard for another month or two, just in case you ever thought about looking for a different view out your living room window…
I appreciate the offer, Jack, but I can’t convince my Mother to leave this swamp.
At least it should dampen the fire danger and flush out the Okeefenokee and Everglades before they burn. The local plants aren’t very drought resistant and a few months without rain causes a problem.
It really gets on your nerves when these thing hit at night, because you can’t tell what’s going on outside.
I’ll be thinking of all of you. Stay out of harm’s way, whether it takes the form of wind, water… or more exotic events.
Waiting is often the worst part, provided you don’t get blasted to pieces during the actual event. Stay safe, but send some of that rain up to us….we could use it, too.
That *path* into the “armpit” is what i thought I saw on the map…and good thing for you too! Keep safe!
😀
We are getting minor winds and a little rain, but North Florida is getting wet. Looks like Alberto is going to run up the coast, giving Georgia and the Carolinas a drink, so you might get some relief, Andante.
I knew it would head this way the moment I realized I’d over-watered my tomato plants.
