All You Need To Know About Politics

… is found in the movies of Mel Brooks and Monty Python.

By now you have read about the new Republican Congresscritter from Maryland who is upset because he has to wait a month to get his taxpayer subsidized health insurance. I guess his $10K+ monthly salary isn’t enough to cover him for that month.

In Hostage Situation Anglachel looks at Paul Krugman’s latest column, The World as He Finds It, and while agreeing in principle with Krugman, she is reminded of the hostage scene in Blazing Saddles where the sheriff takes himself hostage.

I would note that one of the few intelligence utterances from the Shrubbery was “I don’t negotiate with myself.” It was usually misapplied to the situation that was involved, but the principle is sound.

Frankly I find the simplest answer to what has occurred during the first two years of the Obama Presidency is that he is a Republican, who ran as a Democrat because that was the quickest way to fulfill his ambition. He never presented any real policies that he intended to implement, he simply talked about bi-partisanship, as if process were more important that policy. There is no indication that he is any less shallow than his predecessor.

He indeed is a Republican who ran as a Democrat. Its a pity that so many people fell for him!! He is shallower than his predecessor.

Obama ran for President as a Democrat because the Republican Party kicked out most blacks with its anti-civil-rights-for-blacks agenda (Nixon’s “Southern Strategy”), not because he’s ideologically opposed to most of the Republican agenda. I.e., he’s a Democrat out of habit, not because of his fundamental political beliefs, which are fairly conservative.

About the only good thing I can say about Obama is that he isn’t a batshit crazy lunatic neocon. By this time in the Lesser Bush administration, Junior had already gotten us into one war, and was already in the process of moving troops to Kuwait for the next war. The neocons would have us lining up troops at Iran’s border right now if they still had access to power. Keeping the neocons away from the reins of power was well worth voting for Obama over McCain. I just wish it hadn’t been a choice between two Republicans (an insane one, and a sane one) in that election :(. (And no, I did *not* vote for Obama in the primaries… what, you think I’m an idiot Kossite? Heh!).

Welcome to site, Joshua.

Been saying it for a while, Suzan, but it is tough to be heard over all of the kool-aid drinkers.

He doesn’t sound like a neocon, Badtux, but he doesn’t keep extending the Afghanistan mission, giving the Israeli whackoes a pass, staging the Security Theater, and continuing the imperial Presidency, so functionally there isn’t much difference.
