What’s the difference between George Bush and Kim Jong Il?
One’s a short, obnoxious, high-heel wearing moron who can’t speak English, and the other is the leader of North Korea.
You had to know this was going to happen as soon as they offered Iran a deal; Kim would want to know if Ahmadinejad’s deal was better than his. Kim doesn’t want to take the deal behind door number one if the grand prize is behind door number two.
CBS carries the standard story about what the US says is going on and all of the expressions of concern, real concern, and extreme concern various governments and individuals are making over the possible testing of a Taepodong-2 missile by the North Koreans. Well, except the Russians and the Chinese, who haven’t made a statement, which is kind of odd.
Laura Rozen has posted that the South Koreans have some doubts about the accuracy of the US intelligence on the test. The South is wondering if this might not be a test of one of the shorter range missiles designed to annoy the US and bring attention back to North Korea.
Let’s be clear: of all of the people on the planet who should have been eliminated immediately after Osama bin Laden was neutralized with extreme prejudice, Kim Jong Il has to be number one with a bullet. He has allowed his population to slowly starve to death while he plays games.

Ah. So if Laura Rozen’s sources are correct, Kim Jong Il simply has Nodong.
OK, OK; it’s my typical juvenile humor. But think about it: we already know that Bush lied, and somehow convinced some of our intelligence sources to lie, or at least wink at a lie, about whether Iraq had or proactively sought components of or materials for nuclear weapons, and that Bush did so as an obvious motive for propelling the U.S. into a war that had no positive consequences for our security. How can we not imagine that he might do it again?
Kim Jong Il is clearly a madman, and I’ll even concede he’s a dangerous madman. But I’ve seen no evidence that his irrationality extends to assuring his own and his country’s immediate destruction. In the classic formulation, he’s crazy but not stupid. What about our own dangerous madman? How far is he willing to go?
The missile will have to be launched because it has liquid fueled stages and burning is the only way of dealing with liquid rocket fuels. They tend to be unstable and can’t be safely stored. The fuels tend to be corrosive and explosive, so we should know what they have in short order.
He tends to see his personal survival as the only important consideration, and as the equivalent of saving the “nation”. The population is starving because of his decisions, but he doesn’t seem to notice or care.
