The Aftermath

Hie thee to Musing’s musings for Tom Tole’s cartoon and then continue with Michael’s view of Keith Olbermann’s righteous refutation of Rumsfeld’s American Legion speech from the point of view of a historian.

When you are done there, drop by YouTube to watch Mr. Olbermann and John Dean on Countdown discussing Rumsfeld’s speech and the attempts to spin by spokesweasels.

If you haven’t heard the spin, the claim is that Rummy didn’t really say that those who disagree with the Shrubbery are “appeasers”.

I may do an extended musing on the Olbermann/Rumsfeld thing after the weekend at Progressive Historians, which is launching on Tuesday and where I’m one of the front-pagers.

As near as I can tell they are going into shock because people are checking the facts and they don’t have a backup position. Olbermann is still angry, more than ever when they tried to say Rumsfeld didn’t really call critics “appeasers”.

I get really pissed when fools try to tell me I’m too stupid to understand. I have no problem, and, in fact, appreciate it when people point out any errors in the data I use to come to conclusions, but don’t tell me I’m too stupid to understand that I’m being lied to when the facts are publicly available.

They’ve gotten away with it for so long, it’s become second nature. I believe it was P.T. Barnum who said nobody ever lost money underestimating the intelligence of the American public, and as far as the Shrubbery is concerned, he was 100% right on that score. Rummy first assumed that nobody would notice if he made a completely ludicrous and unhistorical comparison. When that experiment blew up in his face, he and his handlers then assumed they could walk it back by pretending it had never happened, and hoping that the long holiday weekend would take care of most of their PR problems. Doesn’t look like that’s going to work, either. Wonder what they’ll try next?

With a 3-day weekend and people coming off vacation [if they get one] I’m waiting for something nasty to come out this weekend.

They keep going back to the same well and people are beginning to notice the well is poisoned.

I wonder the Katrina anniversary isn’t working against the Shrubbery this week. A number of journalists remembered what their job was last year, and the memory may be affecting them.

Well…the disconnect between his rhetoric and the *we-create-our-own-reality* realities need to finally come home to roost in the brains of the American Public.

I read on another blog that in reponse to a question about should the US change *strategy* in Iraq, Shrubs responded with this sound-byte-ism: “Our Strategy is to Stay Until the Iraqi’s can stand up for them selves”. The writer remarked that that is a GOAL not a STRATEGY. That a Strategy is a Plan to get to a Goal…and (per usual) the Shrubs appears NOT to understand the difference.

Ah-ha…it does work…but I’ve been unable to get one for my regular email address. (I think it must be tied to either computer or an ISP…because it won’t let me select a different one for a dif email). Anyone KNOW how to reach the Gravatar folks to request a Change of Gravatar?

I won’t be needing the Purple Pretzel Forevah! (I hope NOT -anyway! *Wink*)

Karen, the only thing the Shrubbery and crew know how to do is campaign, they don’t have a clue about actually running the government because they hate the government.

They have turned the government into their distorted vision of the government – corrupt and incompetent.
