Litany Against Truth
I must not speak truth.
Truth is the election-loser.
Truth is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will avoid the truth.
I will force it to pass by me or through my distortion.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the truth has gone there will be nothing.
Only my lie will remain.

Splendid parody, Bryan! And all too true. I can only hope that America sees through the lies, and on Election Day, GOP candidates are headed for their Dune, um, their doom.
As to your apology to Herbert, consider the following, from his Listening to the Left Hand:
The Bush cabal, including and perhaps especially Karl, is counting on that propensity, manipulating the voting public through their need for reassurance… that they are safe, that they still have their freedom, etc. There’s no way to tell for sure, but I suspect Herbert would have understood and approved of your parody.
Fear and lies is all they understand and I am roundly sick of it. I’m sick of killing trees to produce the dreck that has already filled my mailbox, and the even more fetid garbage to come in a Katherine Harris race.
They tell stupid lies about meaningless things that are easily verified and expect everyone to believe them. I’m tired of reading about these spiteful people in terms that should be reserved for the real heroes that surround us – people who work for a living.
